1. Erin Brockovich’s aggressive pursuit of a job stems from the fact that she is a single mother struggling to support her family. Without the motivation of her family Erin admits she would be somewhere completely different. I don't not think Erin lives a simple life with her only problem being financially disadvantaged. Erin's family drives her passion for work but also creates a strenuous and complicated situation for Erin because she has to take care of them. Erin's life experience has led her to have an increased sense of what is right and wrong. Erin has had to deal with many obstacles and inconveniences which have made her empathetic to those who have dealt with similar problems to her own. I think because of Erin's family and increased sense of right and wrong she is a bit pushy. However, her "pushiness" is not a bad thing. Erin is pushy in order to achieve her goals. This movie taught me that being pushy and passionate about work can lead to great results.
2. My opinion on Ed Masry changed throughout the film. At the beginning of the film I felt as though he took Erin for granted, did not respect Erin, and underestimated her abilities. As the film progressed Ed began to have a higher and higher opinion of Erin until he believed that their case would never had been successful without Erin's help. Even though Mr.Masry did end up putting in hard work during the film, this work was only because Erin talked him into doing so. I believe that Ed would have put in more work from the start of the case if the client was a million dollar corporation. This is because Ed seemed to have been motivated partially by money, he did not care for the residents of Hinkley as much as Erin ever did which demonstrated this fact. I think that attorneys like Ed should give the same service to all their clients. This is because attorneys can vet their clients before taking a case, therefore an attorney should always put the same amount of work into all their clients.
3. I believe that Erin Brockovich has a very outstanding work ethic which influenced her job greatly. As shown in the movie Erin goes above and beyond what is required of her job. Erin travels to Hinkley, does extra research, and works overtime for the people affected by her case. I believe that Erin sees herself as much than a temporary law clerk. Erin challenges Ed Masry and sometimes disputes his authority, this takes place throughout the movie. The argumentative challenging attitude and personal work ethic Erin has makes her seem as more of an assistant to Ed than any other job.
4. When Erin meets with PG&E’s attorneys she makes a compelling argument for a higher settlement amount for the nearly 400 plaintiffs involved in the case by arguing to the attorney’s sense of right and wrong. Erin's appeal to right and wrong stresses how PG&E must feel some remorse in what has done to the residents of Hinkley. I agree with Erin's perspective in this case despite it not being what may be accepted by professional lawyers. I agree with Erin because she takes into account all the trauma the plaintiffs have suffered and tries to equate the trauma into terms PG&E’s attorneys can understand.
