Questions for Reflection & Journaling - Erin Brockovich
1) I think Erin's aggressive approach to everything stems from the fact that she is a single mom and has been through a lot and is tired of being pushed around. In the movie we hear her talk about how she was treated in the past and how no one respected her. She wants more respect and is tired of people judging based on the way she looks and dressed, so she becomes aggressive and tense in almost every situation. Erins sense of "right" and "wrong" is greater than the average American because of her past experiences. In the movie we can see many characters annoyed by her or angry at her because she can seem a bit pushy, but I don't think that is a bad thing. She is being "pushy" because she is tired of people conflicting and getting in her way and she wants to do what she thinks is right.
2) My opinion of attorney Ed Masry changed as the movie progressed. At first, he seemed a bit annoyed at Erin and was more concerned about how presentable Erin was. But as the movie progressed we see how much he relies on her for the case and how much she contributes to the team. We can see in the movie how much Erin cares about the civilians of the town a lot and puts a lot of passion into the case, where as we can see Ed more in it for the money. I think attorneys should give the same service to everyone regardless of the revenue. There can be cases that are more important than other ones with more money but all attention is brought upon that one because of the money.
3) Erin Brockovich has an outstanding work ethic. We can see how much passion she puts into her work even if it's not her job to do so. She is willing to work overtime, and even sick just to get her work done. She doesn't believe that one person should have total authority over her because then that might get in the way of her. She doesn't let titles get in the way as we see her do more than just be Mr. Masry's assistant.
4) I think Erin Brockovich has a very good understanding of whats right and wrong. PG&E offered a lot of money to them, but Erin didn't think that the citizens of Hinckley wanted the money as much as they wanted to just feel safe and not have to worry about water that would kill them.
