Jordi Amaral - Erin Brockovich Reflection

1. Erin Brockovic is desperate for a job at the start of the film due to the strain of being a single mother without a job and without an income. When things don't go well for her in the job search she becomes frustrated due to the stress of her situation, and thus can get pushy in order to try to be able to provide for her family and survive. It is not so much pushiness, but rather persistence and caring for her family and taking care of her family. Erin's sense of right and wrong is very different from most other people due to the different life that she's lived in comparison to others, but I don't think that makes it either good or bad. Right or wrong is completely a matter of perspective and not something that can be unbiasedly judged.

2. At the beginning of the film it appears to e that Ed Masry is just doing his job and trying to get by in life and provide for himself and his family. He could care less for Erin's case due to the lack of influence that she wields and the potential money that could be earned. This is a fact of life -- the disadvantaged are not treated the same as the advantaged and it helps keep those disadvantaged lives difficult. As much as I believe that this is wrong and everyone should receive equal treatment, this is just something that is unlikely to happen in most cases.

3. Work ethic is defined as "a belief in the moral benefit and importance of work and its inherent ability to strengthen character." Ed has a very sub-par work ethic in my opinion. He only does enough to do get by and remain profitable without doing too much. Erin, on the other hand, goes and does independent research and work in order to succeed, which shows the viewer that even if she is a temporary employee she sees herself as a mainstay, or at the very least wants to work hard enough to become one. I think in a lot of ways she sees herself as Ed's second in command due to all the work she's done, rather than his secretary or assistant. This view of herself is why she works so hard and does so well at her job. Her drive, work ethic, and vision for herself make her an excellent employee and worker.

4. Erin Brockovich has 20/20 vision when it comes to what's right and wrong morally. This is shown by her fighting for the plaintiffs to receive more money from PG&E when they are only offered 20 million -- among 600 some people. I agree with her views as they are in support of the common people that were taken advantaged of by a big, wealthy corporation. She is doing what' right and sticking up for the little guy who being treated unjustly.
