Steve Wambo- Shark tank and Marcus Lemonis

1. I think Marcus Lemonis is a way better investor. the reason why is because not only does he invest money into a broken company, he goes in and try to fix the problems and the people that are making the company fail. He dedicates himself to that company, going over records and numbers to make a better profit for the company and speeding up the process to get his money back and more.
2. If i had my own business it would be a landscaping company. My investors would be Marcus Lemonis and Lory G. First i said Marcus L. because he is a millionaire that has invested in hundreds of companies and Have connections all over the world, and Lory G. because she owns QVC. A company that airs on t.v, and i feel like with her reputation and connections i can get some publicity, even have are own commercial to get more consumers.
3.The difference between Marcus L. and the cast of shark tank is that the investors in shark tank just invest their money into a company, hopes the company blows up, and wait to get paid back and add loyalties to make extra money off the company. Marcus L not only invest money, but works with you to make your company a success so at the end it benefits for both of them.

I believe the Marcus is a better investor as has done business with allot other people than the sharks. He has also Deal with another type of people with different situations one of the major different from Marcus Lemonis and the Sharks is their business plants some of the sharks might want just their money back while Marcus most likely would want the 50% of the company he is helping while the sharks might just want 30-40% of the company. If I had my own business it would be on making new phones I would go with Marcus because the shark doesn't look like a place I could really get some help from starting a company of new phones.

Lucas Rosen - Shark Tank and Marcus Lemonis

After watching Shark Tank and Marcus Lemonis I feel that the Shark Tank is a much better investment. The investors on Shark Tank are preferable to Marcus Lemonis because they provide better deals. This means that the “sharks”, investors, give better deals to business owners because they have to compete between each other if they agree the business opportunity presented is a good one. This competition means the business owner will also get the viewpoint of different experts. On the other hand, Marcus Lemonis only presents one perspective and demands a much higher margin of profit. Marcus Lemonis could be better than Shark Tank in one way, which is turning around a failing business. If no necessity arises then Shark Tank is the obviously better choice. If I were to own a business it would probably have to do with renting products to consumers. I feel that a rental business would fare better on Shark Tank because the “sharks” bring their individual expertise to better a product. With multiple ideas being presented I would be able to decide what path I would want my product to go down. The perspective given by the “sharks” and the competitiveness of Shark Tank make it the better show for a business owner.

Shark Tank/Marcus Lemonis- Skye Taylor

I believe the investors on Shark Tank are better. The reasoning for this is because there are more options for the entrepreneur to choose from. What if they don’t like the offer Marcus Lemonis is offering? They have no choice to take it. Unlike Shark Tank, depending on how much your invention interests one of the investors (or all of them), you have a variety of options to choose from.

If I had my own business, I would probably have a clothing line. My sense of style is different from a lot of people and I think I’ll get really far with it. The investor I would be willing to work with is Daymond John. He has the experience and he knows what it’s like to start from nothing and get his company off of the ground. I want good support system and someone who understands how hard I’d be working to get this clothing line to kick start and go forward.

In Marcus Lemonis, he’s more concerned with negotiating with the entrepreneurs so that they are both making money. Marcus also shows more interest in who he’d be investing with. On the other hand, the investors on Shark Tank think about what they’d be getting out of the business. They don’t think about the background of the company and they only focus on their own profit. Marcus Lemonis gets to know the business and gets deeper information. The investors on Shark Tank do the opposite, they know the basic information and take it as the only information.

I think Marcus Lemonis from The Prophet would be a better entrepreneur because he took time to look into the business and knew what he could do to help out. On Shark Tank you have a select amount of time to present your ideas in front of 6 rich famous people and the pressure is on. With Marcus, he actually comes into your business and gets to know how you run your business and what you're struggling with and he helps a lot. If I were to run a business, I would have it be a cafe because I like the smell and the atmosphere of it. I would also work with Marcus Lemonis because he could come into the cafe and see how stuff is run and what he can do to help. One big difference between Shark Tank and The Prophet is that Marcus Lemonis actually has time to look at your business and get a better understanding of it, whereas Shark Tank you have a very small amount of time to explain your business and impress them.

Marcus Lemonis vs. Shark Tank- Nadav Schoenberg

After watching both The Profit and Shark Tank, Marcus Lemonis is the better investor. While on Shark Tank entrepreneurs are given more options, Marcus Lemonis is the most straight forward investor. Marcus Lemonis is very clear cut with the money he is investing. Unlike Shark Tank, there are less strings attached with the money. On Shark Tank, some of the strings attached may be too complex for a average entrepreneur to understand. Also, Marcus Lemonis is much more hands on. Instead of just analyzing the numbers, he visits the business and sees first hand what must be improved.

If I owned a business, I would own a political consulting firm. This firm would consult candidates running for political office. If I was looking for investors I would choose Shark Tank. I would choose Shark Tank simply because of the amount of people involved. On Shark Tank, there are five investors, as opposed to one in Marcus Lemonis. This wide range of investors with diverse backgrounds opens up a opportunity for many connections in the political world. This choice is less of money, and more one considering networking and the importance of knowing people in politics. Marcus Lemonis actually ran for office, but lost and never pursued a political career again.

Compared to Shark Tank, Marcus Lemonis seems much more selfless. He seems genuinely invested in the success of the business, not only for himself but for the original business owners. Marcus Lemonis gets to know the people behind the business, both the owners and the workers. He learns their story and makes a personal connection with them. Marcus Lemonis is much more hands on throughout the investment process. On Shark Tank, investors just hand out deals to entrepreneurs. However, Marcus Lemonis visits the business, and in some cases even lends a hand and helps the business with daily operations.

Isaac Hunter- Shark tank vs Marcus Lemonis

I think that for a entrepreneur it would be better to go into the show the Profit with Marcus Lemonis because people get more money and better help. People who struggling can get help on demand straight up. Marcus is better because he offers more and helps more. Shark tank investors usually give more of a hard time and want more of the company offering less money. The sharks also have many company's and a lot more people they have invested while Marcus Lemonis takes one company at a time and helps them out. If I had my own company it would be a construction company building tiny houses for people to live in. Making small community's where people can live, turning lots into 3 tiny homes rather just one big house. I would rather work with Marcus Lemonis because I feel like he will show me what to do and guide me in the right direction better than the sharks. The sharks look to make money by getting money back over time, sometimes they don't invest fully until months later. Marcus puts a lot more money in and gives the company what every they need to succeed and offers 50 % of the company.

Marcus Lemonis vs. Shark Tank - Max Honzel

Personally I believe that the way that Marcus Lemonis invests is better. His way is better than the Shark Tank investors because he actually takes the time to improve the business, while still putting in lots of money. The Shark Tank investors are extremely helpful, but they do not do nearly as much as Marcus Lemonis does. As seen in the episode with Sweet Pete's, Marcus actually put a lot of his time and effort into making the business better rather than just giving them money and taking a portion of the revenue.

If I were to own a business, it would be a local sports merchandise store. You would be able to buy jerseys from local teams and other objects and souvenirs related to the teams from that city or town. I would rather work with Marcus Lemonis because he would actually put time into my business and make sure it grows. He has a very good business mind and knows how to expand the business just like he did with Sweet Pete's. Marcus Lemonis would also be able to partially fund my business and help me get it going.

Image result for marcus lemonisOne of the largest differences in how Marcus Lemonis and the Shark Tank investors make money is how much time they spend on the business they are investing in. Marcus Lemonis believes that if he spends more time on the business, it will become more successful and therefore he will make more money, whereas the Shark Tank investors tend to put a large amount of money into a business and then trust the owner to grow it by themselves and make money.

In my personal opinion, I would have taken the deal from Marcus Lemonis. He is a man who is willing to take a failing business into his own care in order to help it succeed. While he will be making money off of this, he will also be making money for the business he is investing in. If I had my own business I would be a dive shop/ aquarium. This would sell dive gear, fish, and have classes to get scuba certified. I would try to staff at least twenty staff members in order to keep the business moving smoothly and not have to worry about being low on staff. One of the major differences between the sharks and Marcus Lemonis is that the sharks are only looking for businesses that are already thriving and are looking for the next big step. While Lemonis finds ideas that he thinks can make money, he gives money to a business that is struggling financially and tries to help them to make more profits through his ideas. He will end up running the business so that it has a good business model.

I believe that Shark Tank is a better way to invest than Marcus Lamonis. This is because with Lamonis you automatically have to give up 50% of your company which can be a serious loss, but with Shark Tank you can pick from multiple investors, each with different skills and resources and connections that could be utilized depending on your product. This means that it is easier to support your product than with Lamonis, which is a major difference between the two investment opportunities. Another big difference which would make me want to use Shark Tank is that in Shark Tank you don't have to take 1 person's deal and you can kind of negotiate and use one investor off the other, but with Lamonis you just have one person with a deal that is take it or leave it. With shark tank there is a lot more flexibility, making it a more attractive investing option. If I have a business it would be a collector's sports shoes/cleats store that would have different customized sports cleats and shoes. With that business I would definitely choose Mark Cuban of Shark Tank as the person to invest with because he already has both feet in the sports world as the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, and I could surely potentially have Mavs players advertize my gear.

Caroline Springer- Eyes on the Prize

The documentary series “Eyes on the Prize” discussed many significant events during the civil rights movement, one being Brown vs Board of Education. This was a US Supreme Court case in which the court deemed state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white children unconstitutional. What moved me about this case was not only the US trying to become more equal but the first student of color to enter what was previously an all white school. Ruby Bridges was 6 years old when she had to be escorted into school by US marshals to protect her from angry mobs of white people. I was moved by the amount of strength embodied in such a young person. Grown people went out of their way to harass and threaten this child on the basis of the color of her skin. Ruby was attended this school to get the equal education she deserved and she did not let racism stop her. I respect Ruby for being as brave as she was at such a young age and being so dedicated to fight for racial equality.

Julia English- Shark Tank and Marcus Lemonis

I think that The Profit with Marcus Lemonis is a better format for an entrepreneur to participate in because instead of having to pitch an idea to a couple of mean rich people, Marcus actually makes it his job to find good businesses and help them grow. The Profit is better because he actually cares about your business and his main goal isn't take make a lot of money and takeover the business. If I had my own business (a bakery) I would much rather work with Marcus Lemonis than the                                                                 investors on Shark Tank because I think it shows that my business would                                                       actually have to be good for him to approach me, rather than pitching an                                                       idea to the investors on shark tank who could say my idea is awful. Also,                                                       Shark Tank is more for unique ideas where Marcus deals with more                                                             generic but cool businesses. Marcus will invest as much money as he                                                             feels they your business needs and we be present in the making and                                                               construction of your business. The Sharks will simply give you money                                                           and put a royalty on the amount they give you or expect you to pay them                                                       a percent of the income you make.

Johnny Trujillo- Shark Tank and The Profit

I think that Shark Tank is better for an entrepreneur to participate in because there are many opportunities for you to get the deal that you are seeking for, the multiple “sharks” on the show give a high chance of getting the deal that will change your life. Unlike Marcus Lemonis show, Marcus wants to give money and right away be in charge and because he hasn’t been in the companies that he is giving the money to sense the beginning people had sued him. I wouldn't want to take one bad deal over a chance to get multiple deals. Shark Tank is a better investor because there is face to negotiations and making the deals good towards both of each other. Marcus on the other hand just makes a deal that would benefit him more than the other person but still somewhat helping the person. My own business that I would like to have is my own clothing line, because I would love people wearing my brand and I think it would be fun making my own clothing. With my business I would like to work with the investors in Shark Tank because each and everyone would be honest with me about my business and each would give investments that would benefit both largely. I major difference between Marcus Lemonis and the investors from Shark Tank is that Marcus Lemonis is looking to give money to a business and run 100% of it making him a lot of money because of him owning the company, and the investors in Shark Tank are trying to help the business and themselves equal because they give different options that will suit both. Shark Tank investors have multiple great opportunities when on the other hand Marcus Lemonis just provides one opportunity no matter if it works out or not.

Marcus Lemonis Vs. Shark Tank - Jay Wilson

  1. I think that Marcus Lemonis is better because he really shows you how a business is supposed to be run. Instead of kind of leaving us on our own and just giving us money, he gives a business plan and helps us execute that plan before he leaves. With all of his connections and experience with new companies, I would feel comfortable with him coming in and helping us succeed.
  2. If I had my own food business, I would choose Mark Cuban because he understands advertisement and could advertise me at his games. The games are a gateway for customers to try food as well as get ideas of where to buy more of that food. I think his expertise would be very useful in getting my business out there and exposed to a large amount of people at once.
  3. The sharks often offer to own less than 50% of the company while Lemonis looks to be a co owner. The sharks also don’t really get involved in running the business. Lemonis looks to lead the business and call all of the shots in order to be as profitable as possible. The sharks often look for a royalty until they make all of their money back.

Giulia Alberati_Erin Brockovich Questions

Giulia Alberati
Period 8
Personal Finance

Erin Brockovich Questions

1) Erin Brockovich's situation strongly affects the way she has to act. She is a single mother with three kids and she needs a job in order to feed them and pay the bills. She really needs a job because of her personal situation but her situation also don't let her get a job: a single mother with three kids is not considered a good and reliable employ. Considered her true need to get a job in order to support her family, her aggressive pursuit of a job is completely normal. Her experiences and type of life has made her have a strong sense of what is right and what is wrong. Eris is pushy but she is only because that is also way she can survive. Thus, it's not really about her own personality but how this has been impacted by her own life situation.

2) Ed Masr's personality completely change throughout the movie. At the beginning, he looked way more distant from his clients like Erin Brockovich case of the car incident. He didn't really had any interest in his clients but he was more focused on gaining money and on his own profit. When he lost Erin Brockovich case, he just said he was sorry without meaning. It's almost as if his clients only represented a case with a revenue instead than true people with real feelings and problems he could have helped with. This changed when he gets to know Erin Brockovich better. I think attorneys should give the same service to every client regardless the revenue that client represents.  An attorney is supposed to help people regardless of money because even a simple case as a car incident, which might not seem like an important case to an attorney, might be essential to a client. Attorney should really focus on looking at clients like PEOPLE, not money.

3) Erin Brockovich has an amazing work ethic. She truly believed on her job and her case as a moral good and she sacrificed most of her time and energy in order to be successful at it. She sees herself more Mr Masry's secretary or a temporary employ but she sees herself as a person who had the ability to help other people and she dedicates all herself for it. This influence how she does her job because she is not looking to sit in a desk the required hours to get her paycheck but she wants to more a difference. She knows that she has the power to relate with the other people affected by her case and she understands their situation. This is something that the attorneys don't have and it's what will make this case successful.

4) During the PG&E's attorneys meeting, Erin argues that the number of money offered by them is completely unacceptable. She reminds them that we are not just talking about a random number of money but about the value of a human life. A human value that might have been ruined and that there is no way to repay but that it must at least been taken with the real value that it is. She challenges the PG&E's to think how much their own health or part of a body is worth and then to multiply that number by 100, which is the number of people that are sick. I completely agree with Erin's perspective and I am going to remind myself of her teachings. It's easy to loose the perspective of our own humanity but we must take Erin's as an example.

Abi Otwell - Investor Response

I personally think that Marcus Lemonis is a better investor. Not only does he get involved in the entrepreneur’s business, but he works with the entrepreneur to “save the failing business”. He immerses himself within the entrepreneur’s business in order to understand where the business is lacking. For example, in the episode we watched, Sweet Pete’s is failing for number of factors primarily related to the low profit compared to company expenditures. The owners are also struggling to work with their co-owner who handles the business side of the company. I think that Lemonis is a better investor because by seeing these issues that the business is having, he can better assess how much of a risk he is taking when investing in their company. He is able to get involved in the daily operations of the business and he can get a feel for what assets the business has and what things it needs to improve on. Then, he can share his business knowledge with the owners in order to ensure that, if he decides to invest in the company, he knows that the owners will follow his business advice and hopefully thrive.
If I had my own business, I would consider owning a bakery. Knowing that in a business that involves creativity, labor, interaction with customers, and much more, I would rather work with Lemonis because he gives effort to learning about the entrepreneurs. Unlike the Sharks, Lemonis visits the owners and gets a feel for how they run their business. This makes the whole experience a more personal one, and allows the entrepreneur to show, not tell, how they work and what their goals are. In addition, unlike the Sharks who simply invest in products and ignore the operations behind the product, Lemonis gives advice to the entrepreneurs he works with.
One major difference between Marcus Lemonis and the investors on Shark Tank are that they treat the investing experience in different ways. Lemonis, as explained above, not only invests in the business, but gets actively involved in the company’s operations. The Sharks only get a 15 minute spiel on a product, and then decide, in the moment, if they want to put money into a business. Lemonis treats the investing experience on The Profit as a chance to help a business thrive while also gaining profit. The Sharks, on the other hand, look at the investing experience on Shark Tank as a way to exploit the entrepreneur in some case, maximize their own profit, and take advantage of the weaknesses of entrepreneurs. Lemonis offers a better deal because while he inserts himself into the company and extracts profit, he also assures that the entrepreneur’s business is better off than when it started.

Jaybriel Haynes-Erin Brockavich

Jaybriel Haynes (4 years old)

Erin Brockovich

1.Does Erin Brockovich's aggressive pursuit of a job stem from the fact that she is a single mother struggling to support her family ? Do you think that because Erin lives in a very simple but financially disadvantaged life, her sense of "right" or "wrong" is greater than the average American's? Is Erin pushy, in your opinion or is she just doing what she has in order to survive ?

Yes i personally feel that not only is Erin a single mother she is someone who wants what’s better for the people of her community and her work ethic is driven by the doubt of people who don’t have to struggle to pay bills and what comes with being a single mother of three children. Yes Erin is pushy but in a sense of when she is trying to get her point across to people in the movie like Ed Masry he doubts Erin in the scene when they have two families together at a house trying to get them to agree with signing papers. Erin’s sense of “right” and “wrong” in this movie i feel have been based off of how the community has responded to the case about their water supply and what it has done to the families in the town.

2.What is your opinion of attorney Ed Masry at the beginning of the film? Do you think that he worked as hard for Erin Brockovich's case as he might have for some of the firm's clients who might have been million dollar corporations? Do you think that attorneys should give the same service to every client regardless of the revenue that client represents?

In the Beginning of the film Ed Masry appeared to me as a jerk because he didn’t seem to be as engaged to Erin as he was to her in the end of the movie . I feel as if Ed Masry would have not worked hard for any other case because Erin was the one to find the case about PG&E in the first place and she brought it to Ed’s attention. No i do not feel as if every attorney gives the same service to their clients but in the case of this movie Erin was granted a job and was fired and rehired .

3.Do you think that Erin Brokovich sees herself as more than just a temporary employee? Does she see herself s more than Mr.Masry's secretary or assistant? Does this influence how Erin does her job?

I think Erin sees herself as an activist for the community and the work she does in the movie becomes more than the “I am a single mother with three children” saying she says it becomes “I cannot leave my job although it helps feed my children i need to help these people too” type of saying and the viewers of the movie can watch her statement change throughout the movie. Erin Brockovich in the movie to me is more than Ed Masry assistant i feel as if she is his teacher as well because in certain scenes of the movie when Mr.Masry wasn’t able to sympathize with some of the characters Erin showed him how and towards the end of the movie when Mr.Masry was talking to the townspeople they started to walk away when he started talking about the towns people as individuals then he caught there attention when he started saying things that sounded or had a similar to the words Erin would say.

4.In meeting with PG&E attorneys, Erin makes a compelling argument for a higher settlement amount for the nearly 400 Plaintiffs involved in the case. Again, Erin Brockovich appeals to the opposing attorneys sense of right or wrong. do you agree with Erin's perspective?

I Agree with Erins perspective because she brings up how the people that work with PG&E don’t have to worry about their drinking water and how they should step inside the shoes of the 400 People who live in the town who have gotten sick.Erin brings up the women and men and how how they have to worry about doctor visits for their lungs, kidneys and uterus infections and diseases that the PG&E company workers don’t have to worry about .
