The documentary series “Eyes on the Prize” discussed many significant events during the civil rights movement, one being Brown vs Board of Education. This was a US Supreme Court case in which the court deemed state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white children unconstitutional. What moved me about this case was not only the US trying to become more equal but the first student of color to enter what was previously an all white school. Ruby Bridges was 6 years old when she had to be escorted into school by US marshals to protect her from angry mobs of white people. I was moved by the amount of strength embodied in such a young person. Grown people went out of their way to harass and threaten this child on the basis of the color of her skin. Ruby was attended this school to get the equal education she deserved and she did not let racism stop her. I respect Ruby for being as brave as she was at such a young age and being so dedicated to fight for racial equality.
