Honestly I think it depends on the situation. If I am not making enough money to support my family then I would leave the apartment without paying the entire sum. If I had a family it would depend on me to have a place to stay and for food and clothes. That would be my number one priority.

I feel like that situation could have gone both ways. On one hand you wanna spend your money on stuff like snacks and candy for special occasions like a birthday or a holiday but on the other hand you don't wanna waste your money on things you don't need. When you are in a situation where every dollar counts, you need to make sure you're getting what you need and not necessarily what you want.
